Role: AV Break Fix Engineer - Onsite

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 (depending on experience), plus benefits including: health, life, vision/dental insurance; disability, vacation, sickness, 401K, commuter benefits & employee assistance program

Location: New York, US on client site

Hours: Monday – Friday 10.00 am – 6.30 pm

Interview Process: Initial Teams interview; 2nd stage on-site

We have a portfolio of blue-chip clients and the current opportunity we have is working on one of our most prestigious customers, and being responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing audiovisual (AV) systems to ensure optimal functionality in all meeting rooms and event spaces. 

This role involves responding to service tickets, conducting preventative maintenance and providing support to level 1 event technicians, clients and other onsite teams at multiple locations.  

The Break-Fix Technician’s function is to provide AV and VC technical support across all meeting rooms and event spaces on the client’s site, and to identify and resolve technical faults across a wide array of videoconferencing and other audio visual equipment, including Cisco and Microsoft Teams rooms, whilst configuring devices, assisting in office relocations and providing remote support to users at other office locations

The position involves a high degree of exposure, working sometimes with executive management and managing directors to provide the services.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Break- fix and troubleshooting

  • Diagnosing and resolving AV System failures; including video conferencing, projection, display and audio and control system issues

  • Conducting root cause analysis and implementing effective solutions for recurring AV issues

  • Performing on-site and remote troubleshooting to minimize operation disruptions

  • Maintaining documentation on Inventory, problem ticket resolutions, Conference Room Information, and QC and PM performance checks

  • Conducting routine maintenance, firmware updates and system health checks to ensure all AV equipment is functioning optimally.

  • Replacing faulty components, including cables, connectors, microphones, projectors and control panels

  • Providing technical support for onsite teams (e.g. AV Techs/Event Techs, CRES, Clients,  etc.)

  • Collaborating with other departments (Networks, Cabling, etc.) to facilitate issue resolution

  • Assisting with installation and commission of AV systems, including displays, audio systems and control interfaces

  • Assisting and maintaining configuration of AV control systems (e.g. Crestron, Extron, Tri caster) and video conferencing platforms (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex)

Job requirements

Skills and experience: 

  • Strong understanding of AV hardware, signal flow and control system wiring

  • Knowledge of Cisco videoconferencing systems

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Teams / Microsoft Teams Rooms and Surface Hub video conferencing systems

  • Operation and troubleshooting of AV control systems (e.g., Crestron, Q-sys)

  • Loading of compiled code in control processors and touch panels

  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with AV gear

  • Basic knowledge of networked AV solutions, IP-based control systems and cloud-based AV platforms

  • Ability to read as-built drawings and apply the understanding to diagnose reported problems

  • Good communication skills with vendors, co-workers, and managers

  • Knowledge preferred (not required) of VC codec, Audio DSP, and other configurations within system software

  • Some installation skills preferred but not required
